Kingston Library Community Room, 55 Franklin Street, Kingston
All are welcome!
The theme of this year’s International Women’s Day is Inspiring Change.
Our branch, led by Jenn Mayfield, AAUW-NYS International Affairs and Cultural Interests Co-Director, will honor and celebrate the day by writing letters or cards to young girls (a Girl Scout Troop in the community) to “inspire change,” foster inter-generational communication, and share stories, woman to woman. We will also be showing the film Invisible War, a documentary about sexual assault in the military.
At the meeting, we will be collecting gently-worn bras in conjunction with the AAUW-NYS Free the Girls Project. The bras will be distributed to survivors of human slavery, who set up second-hand clothing shops around the world. To learn more about this project, visit: www.freethegirls.org
We will also be collecting children’s books suitable for children under the age of 10. We will festively wrap the books and donate them to Washbourne House in Kingston and the Children’s Migrant Center in New Paltz.
We are very excited about our program. We hope you can come. If you cannot come, contact a fellow member about bringing bras or books or both to the meeting for you.
